Revised sitemap with all the links we could create.

Here are the visuals for what each seperate page may look like. I've only done the ones Mike has written and posted on the blogg so will get the rest done once he's posted the rest. As the pages looked a bit flat, i decided to introduce the original illutration on the page and knocked it back abit so it doesn't overpower the content.
Next stage would be getting all of theses on dreamweaver which me n Mike are doing, don't no if he knows tat yet though lol. cu all at tutorial!!!

Here are the rest of the pub names. i found pic's of the goose on the net and used the closest font i could find for the title. Good work on the flash Helen n Chris im looking 4ward to see how u did it!

animations

I reckon they're spot on Ravi, nice one. Really like the orange tree one. I'm thinking some of the backgrounds might look a little bit flat ... will have to see what it looks like on the layout mockups you're doing. Would be really easy to lay it on some texture or scanned paper or something to give it a bit of a lift.

Here are the plans for the animations helen and i drew up yesterday for the flash home page. Was playing on it last night and its gradually driving me insane, in a rewarding kind of way! Currently when I click on orange, the whole page kicks off. I've been tangoed.

See you tomorrow after the guest lecture!

Heres the song for the main page, ignore the video obviously. . .

Heres the introductions for the first 5 pubs;

Horn in hand

The yellow ace in the hole. During the day Horn disguises itself as a relaxed social, with a selection of appetizing meals, sofas and televisions, making it the perfect lunch hour. Where as by night reveals itself as the student bands place to kick it. Pitchers, pints and cocktails at discount price when supplied with a yellow card leaves even the most tolerable student with a hang over in the morning. Easily found by following Nottingham’s tram lines, a perfect place to stop off on your travels.

Bell inn

More of a history lesson than a drinking session. The Bell’s history is what keeps it in the top ten of Nottingham’s pubs. The bells underground tour of the streets gives another insight into Nottingham’s past. During the day, homes many elderly locals in a series of different rooms. Keeping them happy with rustic pub meals and its enticing selection of different ales. Where as by night attracts a much younger audience, with live bands and jazz nights. Easily described as “A local with a twist”

Pit and Pendulum

Nottingham’s own nightmare before Christmas. Being one of the most popular places in town, (much like a house party at the munsters) its almost a tourist attraction of drinkers. The Pit hosts a range of dim lit alcoves, torture devices, eerie cocktails and shots, perfect to boast about the next day. Its large menu caters simple food for families or as a quick bite to eat in town. Placed near to the centre of the town, the pit is easier to find than its own toilets . . .

Tap and Tumbler

A pub with the same amount of character as ozzy’s hotel room. The Tap is a cosy pub just a stone throw away from the royal concert hall, ideal as a stop off on the way home. The Tap has a worn interior and large oak bar that runs round the middle of the pub which hosts a large selection of fun drinks at reasonable prices. It also has a jukebox with a large selection of music, and a projector for those nights that something is worth watching on TV. It also aids those during the day with a cheap and cheerful full English. An unkempt pub perfect for the hell’s angel inside of you.

Oange Tree

A place to relax for the young professional. The orange’s chilled out atmosphere is aimed to help you unwind after (or during) your long day. Catering meals big enough even to fill the largest of us, and displaying artwork to entice the richer of us, the only thing you need to keep tight about will be your bank account. The orange is perfectly placed in between the local university and towns Victoria centre. It’s a warm, cosy pub with large sofas and oak tables to make it feel like home. Combined with its free wifi, you’ll be soon looking for your bed instead of the exit!

catsuma

bouncing cat i created on flash - we can use this model for the orange tree animation

With Chris's Illustrator skill we have our illustrations for the front (or index as the tutors call it) page. I've positioned the illustration in there rightful places and seperated them with the use of a grid. All we have to do now is animate them........

final illustrations for front page

Wednesday, 21 November 2007

Ive wrote a review of five pubs. They're all sounding pretty positive so far, im not sure if that is what we're looking for. Im gonna let you read them first, then if you like the direction ill carry on and get them typed up. Gopar looks like hes got the immersivity sorted, so we'll be safe basin it on that. Next is the photos for it, drinks up! ha ha.
for the last pub, what about fade its a kinda pub and that one could be done really simply so we had another working link that didnt take up to much time to create?
Hey people we need to decide on the last pub we're doing.
I've created some simple compositions but we need to get pictures of all the pubs names so we can copy the style and put it on the final. (so ive done half the job)
Simple illustration of our current sitmap..... title page to pubs and pub to 4 linked pages. Feel free to change the link names and the amount of them.
hey people i'm just doing the sitmap for the website but realised we hadn't decided what and how many links there would be from the pub pages. So in the mean time im just going to make up 4 links for each pub. Once ive completed the sitmap i'll post it and you guys can let me know what you think.
Also i was planning on doing a visual sitmap but again we have the type of problem, so what im planning on doiing is possible compositions for the pub pages. Theses will be similar to the ones we created with the dot and pin exercise just so we have a more polished version with a range of compositional style which we can than play with 2moro with the established visual language.

dot and pin

Hi guys know you've decided what form of illustration to use, and i agree, just thought i'd add my ideas too just so you know i'd contributed

illustration inspirations?

List of pubs we have chosen:

  • Bell inn
  • Tap and Tumbler
  • Pit and Pendulum
  • Golden Fleece
  • Horn in Hand
  • Goose on Square
  • Hole in the wall
  • Orange tree
  • White Heart (?)
So after the meeting today we've opted to do all our illustrations on illustrator.
The visual style is going to be very bold with flat colour inside it may be with a bit of toning to give the illustrations a bit of depth. Basically combining mine and Chris's visual style which we posted last night.

site map photo

PS Ravi or Helen any chance you could upload a photo of the site map exercise today so I've got a copy for my sketchbook. No hurry, whenever you're next sticking something up! Cheers
Heres some experiments with illustration style I came up with this evening. Tried to keep them simple but quite quirky and fun. Will try and get a colour hard copy printed to discuss tomorrow. What do you think?

Orange Tree

Check it out.... a few illustrations created in illustrator played with the type of tree and then the colour. as we discussed i made it very simple and liner. i quite like the last one purely because the colours are flatter therefore stand out, i think they can be improved so im sure we can discuss that 2 moro. i have also created these using markers playing with white space but i'll leave you in suspense still 2 moro!

Wednesday, 14 November 2007

ok nice one, lets meet at 12 and discuss what we've got. I reckon as long as we've got visuals to work with, we can start coming up with an idea and then do more targetted research when we decide what we're doing it on - more signs, or more photos of the whole building, or more info about certain stuff. Excited about brainstorming!

Chris
I agree with meeting at 12 seeing as we dont have many more pubs to go to and tutorial isnt till 3.30. havent been able to get any ideas down on paper as yet either but got a bit on pub name meanings that might lead to a bit of a theme. see yas tomorrow
hey all, i dont no if you got the text from Michael but he would like to meet at 12 2moro. we can either meet at 12 or start without him lol (sorry Michael just a suggestion). i haven't really start designing yet but have been through all the pics i took and theres over 100 lol, ill print out a contact sheet or sheets for 2moro so we have visuals to take about.

i thought the whole idea of this project was that it has an element of interactivity? o-well i guess we can take it up with the tutors 2moro. so when are we meeting?

Tuesday, 13 November 2007

Nah might as well leave them, no harm done! No idea why its done that, how odd. As long as we have the files its fine.

If anyone has time tomorrow it might be good to start coming up with some rough visuals and concepts for the site to talk through with the tutors on Thursday.. someone in the group A told me they advised against doing an interactive guide to pubs and bars. Bit late for that but as long as we come up with something clever I'm sure they wont mind! I've got some good ideas brewing..

See you Thursday at 11 :)

Chris
hmmmm i dont know why these are horribly cropped?

Delete?
